Introduced in 1986, the American Gold Eagle Series is the official gold bullion coin of the United States. Though it is not the purest gold coin the US Mint issues, its symbolism is directly tied to American history with its visions of Lady Liberty and the American bald eagle on its obverse and reverse sides.
